When the 4.2 magnitude earthquake struck Lebanon on Monday, February 20, the Agri-youth team living in Burj Hammoud and surrounding neighborhoods were left in a constant state of anxiety and fear of what will happen to them and their families. They did not know how to deal with the situation or what to do; the condition of the buildings in Burj Hammoud is not in a state that is able to withstand the force of an earthquake.
ALPHA intervened and organized an awareness session with the Lebanese Red Cross, on how to deal with earthquakes before, during and after their occurrence.
Awareness of danger among these young people is impressive! Listening to the directives and answers of the Red Cross has alleviated and relieved some of the burden and anxiety upon their shoulder. Their psychological resilience is remarkable, as they were trying to averse and mask their fear with jokes and laughter to cope mentally and emotionally with the crisis and to return to a pre-crisis status.
Increased knowledge and training reduce and avoid risks before a problem or a disaster occurs.
